Mary Katrantzou and Adidas have unveiled their new, long-term union and plans for a collaboration on both clothing and footwear. Reports suggest that the collaborative work will launch in November 2014, a new relationship that follows news of Pharrell William’s, Raf Simon’s and Stella McCartney’s union with the American sportswear brand.

I’m really excited to be working with Adidas…I grew up, like so many other kids around the world, wearing Adidas sneakers and I’m really excited about bringing my vision to such a global brand. They have a fantastic heritage and their ability to innovate…makes them the perfect partner”

- Mary Katrantzou

Dirk Schoenberger is the global creative director of the style division at Adidas Sport, and is unsurprisingly ecstatic about the string of collaborations his brand is embarking on.

The collaboration…merges exceptional talent of one of the most interesting designers of today and a company that embraces many different cultures from sports, pop, music and fashion…I admire Mary’s extraordinary sense of printing techniques, colours and silhouettes that will bring another amazing new aesthetic to the Adidas Originals women’s collection

- Schoenberger

We can’t wait for the unveiling of this new collaboration. However, Pharrell’s collection will be ready for Summer 2014, so there is plenty to keep our minds and wardrobes busy!

But, the collection won’t just be a copy of his own label’s pieces. The designer was inspired by Banana Republic’s unique Sloan bi-stretch cotton fabric:

It’s not a copy of my clothes in a less expensive version, but the experience of a fitted dress for the Banana Republic customer.

His Spring 2006 collection received critical acclaim, with A-listers everywhere rushing to be seen in his sensual Galaxy dress. The whole world is going crazy for Game of Thrones. From sword fights, epic battles and dragons to steamy love affairs we can’t get enough of this epic fantasy. What’s more, Michele Clapton’s gorgeous costume designs have had the fashion industry obsessed from the beginning. The ‘G.O.T Runway’ Tumblr account, curated by Zana Bayne, gives a nod to the editorial brilliance exhibited throughout the show and cleverly matches medieval fashion with modern pieces seen on the catwalks today.

We’ve been seriously impressed by some of the red carpet styles seen on the Game of Thrones cast. From Jenny Packham and DKNY to Temperley and Dior, we take a look at our favourite off-set fashion moments.

game of thrones

Emilia Clarke looks absolutely stunning in this red, Ralph Lauren gown. Her beautiful shiny locks finish off the bold look perfectly

game of thrones

We love the dramatic elegance of Lena’s Alessandra Rich gown and it’s great to see Lena tapping into the strength of Cersei’s character!

game of thrones

Natalie looks jaw-droppingly different from her on set character Margaery. Her Marios Schwab dress demands attention and we love the quirky hair-do

game of thrones

Sophie looks classic and elegant in this Dolce & Gabbanna gown accessorised with an embellished clutch bag and a low slung side-pony

game of thrones

Clashing prints are modern and daring and this Temperley dress worn by Rose is a fantastic example of exactly how to mix it up in style

game of thrones

Maisie may only be a young teenager, but she certainly knows how to glam up with this elegant white gown and popping red lipstick.

This fashion forward look from Michelle encompasses classic chic and we particularly like the quiff hair-do!

Emilia Clarke pays tribute to her Game of Thrones character in this dazzling blue Victoria Beckham gown.

Game of Thrones Fashion: An in depth look at costume fashion

image

Michele Clapton is the visionary mastermind behind the beautiful costume fashion of the Game of Thrones series. We take a look at some of our favourite designs from the highly popular fantasy show.

daenerys

cersei

margaery

The amazing fashion exhibited in Game of Thrones is a true testament to the incredible talent of Michele Clapton.

Many characters in the show have signature looks, with styles offering a glamorous nod to the likes of Alexander McQueen and Rick Owens. Funnel necks, Vionnet dresses and leather detailing are just some of the focal concepts explored by Michele, all encompassing strength, power and opulence. Michele’s work garnered her an Emmy Award in 2012 for her designs in season 2. She boasts an incredible CV, having designed costumes for ‘The Devils Whore’ and ‘Sense & Sensibility’.

With a new season officially underway, we thought we would take an indepth look at the signature looks in Game of Thrones

cersei

CERSEI

Cersei is one our favourite villains and one of fantasy’s best evil queens. As a ruler, we have grown to love her powerful dress sense together with bold aesthetics and feminine cuts.

Cersei is one our favourite villains and one of fantasy’s best evil queens. As a ruler, we have grown to love her powerful dress sense together with bold aesthetics and feminine cuts. The intricate embroidery adorned on her robes are as complicated as her character, with opulent dashes of gold fit for any queen. Her need for power is exemplified by her deep red gowns. However, being stripped of her power saw her character return to basic fabrics and muted hues.

DAENERYS

Daenerys is one of the strongest, most in control women we know! She has worn a huge variety of beautiful costumes throughout the series, including silk dresses and tribal suits.

Daenerys has a clearly defined signature look. Her outfits are all about texture,  and as ‘Mother of Dragons’ she needs to encompass power, strength, control and leadership. From Grecian-esque silk dresses and Dothraki tribal clothing to dragon scale inspired Khaleesi tops. Nearly always dressed in blue to pay tribute to her dead husband, Daenerys is all about functionality and understated beauty.

daenerys

margaery

MARGAERY TYRELL

Margaery oozes effortless sex appeal and femininity, giving Cersei a run for her money! Low cut necklines and blue hues create a unique, signature look.

Billowing capes and shape defining bodices give a sense of armory with a glamorous feminine edge. Her daring outfits allow Margaery to use her femininity to increase intrigue towards her character, whilst also proving her as a seductress. Margaerys costumes have a fantastic air of modernity within the medieval setting and we absolutely love her cheeky serenity and grace.

SANSA

Sansa is incredibly young and vulnerable, but we see her grow up incredibly quickly throughout the series. Her costumes are inspired by her environment, with various colours and fabrics.

As a young girl, it is no surprise that Sansa enjoys fairytale stories of knights and princesses. With billowing sleeves and classic cuts, Sansa looks truly feminine and wheres fine materials. Throughout the series we see her style develop into a more fashionable, polished overall aesthetic with beautiful upholstery and a wider range of colours include purple and deep shades of green. Her wedding dress displays her wealth and importance, with amazing gold fabric and padding to create a womanly silhouette. Sansa’s costumes cleverly depict her personality, her location and her role in the society.

3D Printed Dress: Francis Bitonti shows us the future of fashion

image

Dita Von Teese’s 3D printed gown has been circling the media recently and now the dress’s designer, Francis Bitonti, is bringing his incredible technology to the public with a world first.

3d dress

3d dress

Fashion and technology have fused yet again, with a world first from designer Francis Bitonti. The burlesque beauty unveiled the world’s first dress produced with a 3D printer created with the help of Shapeways.

Based on the Fibonacci sequence of numbers, the gown is made from 17 separate pieces all made up of thousands of components dyed black and adorned with over 13,000 Swarovski crystals.

Francis believes this is the future of fashion.

3D printers are paving the way for a whole new aesthetic in haute couture, with items clearly showing their intricate make up and technology.

Bitonti is also debuting his ‘Cloud Collection’ on April 4th. The collection, aimed at a hugely wide audience features decorative houseware.

Technology redefines material as information, as data…With 3D printers in homes, consumers are becoming producers

- Francis Bitonti

According the Bitonti, the future of fashion is in code. His capsule collection offers codes of the houseware items that can be downloaded for $1, although you will have to pay extra to print from 3D hubs. By modifying one aspect of the code, you can decide on the appearance of the suface of a bowl or plate allowing you to uniquely customise your item.

This inspiring advancement will undoubtedly become a huge part of the fashion industry as designs change and materials improve. This is a concept that will only continue to expand, with 3D printed materials surely feeling more like fabric.

INTIMACY 2.0: A dress that turns transparent when you’re turned on!

image

In yet another advancement of the #fashionmeetstechnology trend, the INTIMACY 2.0 project doesn’t leave much to the imagination! This flirtatious piece goes see-through when the wearer becomes aroused.

intimacy

intimacy

intimacy

What with light up trainers, self-unlocking bras and mood sweaters, we thought we had just about seen it all. However, we stand corrected because Studio Roosegaarde have created an haute-couture dress that goes see-through when the wearer is aroused.

As soon as the wearer’s heart rate climbs the garment fades, taking flirtation and close contact to a whole new risky level!

Intimacy 2.0 is a fashion project exploring the relation between intimacy and technology

- Dutch designer Daan Roosegaarde

Studio Roosegaarde is based in China and the Netherlands, and aims to be a ‘social design lab for interactive art, fashion and architecture’. The dress itself is made of leather and smart e-foils intricately wired with electronics and LEDS.

When the heart rate increases as s result of close encounters, the garment itself becomes more and more sheer until it eventually turns transparent.

For those of you worrying about what sort of encounters will result in the loss of your dignity, the description of the product is incredibly vague saying only that ‘social interactions determine the garments’ level of transparency, creating a sensual play of disclosure’. Promotional photos and videos clearly reveal that the dress responds to sexual stimulation. The dress comes in ‘INTIMACY White’ and ‘INTIMACY Black’, although it is not available to buy at the moment.
